Quilt Cards

This will go in the mail first thing in the morning,,,before it gets too nasty from Fay. We got the shutters up today. The first of the outer bands are coming in now...it's pouring. But this should not be too bad...Cat 2 at the worst, probably less. It'll be nice if we don't lose power, but....you never know.

I was going to send you an email wishing you happy birthday tomorrow!

I'm mailing my card out today - The background is more fuchsia than it appears in this photo but this is definitely one *hot* card. Don't forget the deadline for mailing is August 25th.

I still haven't finished the backing on mine - I guess I'd better get to it and get it in the mail. I'll take a photo and post it before sending mine off to Nancy.

Doesn't everyone look really intent on their work? Ann and Mom are working on Ribbon Embroidery postcards and Sarah is doing some beading. It's so great to have them visiting and my kitchen island makes a great craft table!

Mom and Ann have been busy this weekend. Ann's in Virginia for a visit and she finished up her Sunflower card for June and then they both had to try the bookmark postcards like the one Debbie posted.
Ann's is on the left and Mom's is on the right. So...is anyone sending me a bookmark postcard?

How very cute Deb, what a good idea. I can't wait to get it. I will probably try some book marks myself. It's a good thing I have you and Mary to give me ideas. Mary is always showing me new things to try also. She says some time I get stubbom and don't want to try new things.

I just talked with Mother, and she tells me that several of you are working ahead on your cards. So, in light of that I'll post the themes for each month thru the end of the year.

Keep in mind that these are just suggestions, and you are free to make anything you want. But if you like following a theme like I do, here they are.

So there you have the next 6 months. It's really fun to see what everyone comes up with, and amazing how different they all are even with the same theme.

Every one's June cards are so cute! I got Heather's yesterday. Thanks Heather, it really is great...I love it! The beaded flower is beautiful!

I got mine finished today, so it will go in the mail tomorrow. So Mother, if you want to be surprised...don't look!

I was making a bunch up as class samples for a class I will be teaching at the local quilt shop late summer, and it occurred to me that putting the pellon between 2 pieces of fabric would make a good bookmark too. I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world that figured this out, but I decided to combine them with a postcard. So that is what I did for my card this month. I also made some extras for Kara, Sam and Don. But here is the first one for Mother... in the postcard's pocket.

I finally finished the edges of my card and it's being mailed out today - this was my first attempt at ribbon embroidery and the card is entirely hand made!

Mom has gotten her postcards done through September and is probably going to get the holiday ones done soon too! She's keeping herself BUSY.

The one on the left is my May card from Debbie and one the right a bird's nest postcard sent to me by an online friend. Both have all kinds of cool fibers on them and Debbie's has a bunch of beads in the flower center too.

I got my Post Card from Maureen today, thanks Maureen it is so cute. You did a great job.

Mary already posted a picture Mother's Day week end when we were all working on cards, it's the window with the potted plant.

I think I recognize the same leaf stitch in Ann's and Mary Ann's postcards. These cards are a good place to try out those fancy stitches.

Has everyone gotten their May postcards?? I'm waiting for mine but Deb posted a photo so I know what's coming.

Hi Ann, I got your postcard a few days ago (the 2 flowers.

I'm also posting a picture of the postcard I made and sent to Mary Ann (the neckties...sorry it's blurry). The birdhouse is the postcard Mary Ann sent to Maureen.

I've been encouraging Mom to try some hand embroidery and even ordered a book for her when I was in Virginia. My birthday card has hand embroidered stems and leaves and the flower centers are beaded. Thanks Mom!

My card is on it's way to Mary. The background is brown silk, the flower is wool felt and angelina fibers. The center has beads that I glued on. The stem and leaves also are wool, cut with a pinking blade.

Logan is really a cutie Heather! And you're right, he does resemble Brian! And Kiera looks so grown up!

I'm done my postcard, but it's at my parents house still. I need to mail it to Mary Ann. I plan on posting it in the next few days. But here are some baby pics....HE is ALL MCLAUGHLIN! Specifically...my brother Brian.

I already mailed my card to Nancy and she has recieved it. Mary posted it last week on the Blog. It's the one with the purple flowers.

And yes Heather we would like pictures of the Baby. You could put them here or maybe on the Family Blog that way we could see them.

Mary and I had a great time last week. Do ya notice she looks skinner than me?? Is it because I standing in front of her?. Must be...LOL! I hope all of you will post pictures when you get your cards so we can all enjoy them.

And Heather, where are the baby pictures????

I mailed my May postcard to Ann early since I was leaving Mom's and heading to Kansas to meet Debbie at a machine quilting show. I was sure it would get bent up in my suitcase if I tried to bring it home.

This was hand stitched with perle cotton using just the lazy daisy stitch. The flower centers are buttons and the butterfly is a small charm. I got too close to the bottom so my leaves are a bit small on the one flower but I'll definitely make more flowers using this technique - it was lots of fun to make.
Speaking of the quilt show - Debbie won a 2nd place ribbon in the Theme category beating out several big name quilters. It was quite exciting!

I'm planning to go to mom's tomorrow to work on my card for this month. I know mom is already done her postcard. Not sure about Mary Ann's progress for this month. I think she started it last weekend.

I made the first pink one and then Ann and Mom had to make one too. Mom's is blue and Ann's is green. You should be able to click on the photos to enlarge it to see the details better.

What a wonderful week end the girls and I are having I wish all of you could be here with us.

Mom, Ann, Sarah, and Mary worked on postcards today - here are some of our finished and in-progress cards.

A spring postcard for me - some wool, beads, a bee charm, and flower brads.

First of all, thank you Ann! I received your pretty postcard yesterday and I love it!

On to May's exchange...I only got one theme suggestion from you and I also got some feedback about not everyone being comfortable with having to work in a theme, so for this month, you're on your own....make a card anyway you like! Next month (June) we will have an "optional" theme" of "Summertime" So if you want to try your hand at working within a theme be thinking about what summertime means to you. And if you don't, don't worry, do whatever you like.

May's mail by deadline will be May 25th. And since it'll be nice to eventually get a card from everyone I've set up a rotation. Below is the list with who to mail your cards to for May.
